Being one of the most popular blends of tea, English Breakfast was first invented in Edinburgh simply as “Breakfast Tea” in the 19th century, thereafter it is believed that Queen Victoria popularized this blend of tea all over England. As the legend of Earl Grey tea continues, it was named after Charles Grey, the second earl in his line, who was also the Prime Minister to king William IV in the 19th Century. The tale is that the recipe of Earl Grey tea was handed over to him by a Chinese emperor whose life he saved. The oil of Bergamot which is a sweet citrus orange gives its unique taste making it a popular English tea blend around the world.
